Lived and Lived Well

Left to Right: Tyler Garrison, Mobana Bangura, and Bob Speelman.

July 5, 2019
NOTE: This story was taken from the blog of Foundations Health leader Bob Speelman. Each week Bob works at one of his facilities in different roles such as housekeeping, or as a nursing assistant, to bring A Culture of Care.

I spent the Fourth of July with the team at Darby Glenn, our 110-bed facility in Hilliard, Ohio. I had the privilege of working with two outstanding employees and friends, Mobana Bangura and Tyler Garrison.

Mobana Bangura is the STNA who trained me when a first became an STNA a few years ago and I could have asked for a better teacher. Her love and compassion for her residents are unmatched. They are in her care and they are going to get the very best she has to offer - and that's A LOT! Mobana knows every little detail about her residents' likes, dislikes, families, their entire life story. Mobana is well respected throughout the facility as a leader and a motherly figure. She's an amazing teacher and I'm proud to call her a friend.

Tyler Garrison has been with the company for 10 years. He started out for us at an STNA doing medical transports. We would often get calls from physicians' offices complimenting us on his professionalism and helpfulness. From there, he moved into activities and now is the activities director at our new facility, Capri Gardens in Lewis Center. The residents adore him because he takes the time to listen to them and goes out of his way to make their day better. Tyler told me his passion is to have the best activities program anywhere. A program where the residents wake up each day looking forward to what's in store for them that day. He wants to make a difference.

As we worked together that day, I thought how lucky we are as a company to have employees like Mobana and Tyler. They could work anywhere and they chose to work for us. Their love and passion to not just perform a task but to make a difference in the lives of their residents is inspiring.

"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mabana and Tyler – You are making more of a difference than either of you could ever know or realize. Thank you for your friendship and for your love and passion for our residents.
